Melbourne Conservatorium of Music explores aspects of childhood and adolescence through opera, musical theatre and song in their new show, ‘Growing Up’.

Immerse yourself in scenes from Humperdinck’s fairy tale opera, ‘Hansel and Gretel’ and Sondheim’s ‘Into the Woods’. Delve into the darker side with Brittens’ sinister ‘Turn of the Screw’ and be delighted by the Three Little Maids in the ‘Mikado’.

The programme also contains songs by Copland, Williamson and Le Gallienne and two highlights from ‘West Side Story’, America and Officer Krupke.

Freshwater Trio was formed in Melbourne in 2006 by three prominent Melbourne musicians, who together bring a unique collaborative and energetic style to chamber music performance.

They have performed widely on radio for ABC FM, 774 AM and 3MBS, and been invited to perform in a variety of music series and festivals including; the prestigious Castlemaine State Festival, Musica Viva, Port Fairy Spring Festival, Macedon Music Series and at BMW Edge in Federation Square. Their concert series at Melba Hall has been widely acclaimed by public and peers alike with their interpretations described as ‘fearless’ and ‘innovative’ (The Age).

In 2008, Freshwater Trio is planning a tour to St. Petersburg and European centres as well as continuing their popular concert series at Melba Hall. 2008 sees Freshwater Trio as the ‘Ensemble-in-Residence’ at the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne.
